Deadly Beauty Series
At What Cost Beauty?
Deadly Beauty is a series of photomanipulations and abstractions created to encourage the viewer to question society's definition and his own perception of aesthetic beauty. Through manipulation and abstraction of the original "Deadly" photographic image, I sought to create an aesthetically pleasing series of images from something inherently ugly.
We poison ourselves and the land to create spaces that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We fool ourselves into thinking it necessary and forget about the dangerous and unhealthy processes often used to achieve aesthetic “beauty”, whether it be a neighborhood baseball diamond free of weeds or an aging face free of wrinkles. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what do you see? Life or death? Beauty or ugliness? ~ BY Penman
